THE HALF-HOLIDAY QUESTION.

The borough solicitor has given the opinion that the special resolution declaring Wednesday the day of closing for the statutory half-holiday is ultra vires, because seven days' notice of the meeting was not given. Prior to the Act coming into force a fresh meeting of the Council will bo held, when it is expected there will be a majority in favour of Saturday.
