The Paris is a comparatively new vessel, having only been launched in December, 1892. She was i built) by Mr. C. Bailey, of Customs street West, and was reckoned to be the best of her class of vessel sailing oub of Auckland, speoial care having been taken nob only as regards the construction of the vessel, bub also as to the class of ato.ber ussd in her building, all the material being of the highest class. Since her launching she has been engaged in the timber-carrying trade, and an this occasion was under charter to Messrs. Cash more Bros., of Cabbage Bay, to convey a cargo of timber to Mohaka, Hawke'a Bay. She sailed from this port with part cargo, and called in at Cabbage Bay to fill up. She called in at Napier, and sailed from there for Mohaka on Tuesday last. She is owned by Captain Paul Arnaud, Messrs. D. H. Ross, and J. Young. When she left Napier she had on board Captain Hansen, of Napier, as coast pilot. The vessel is insured for £800 in the National and North Queensland offices, bub it is understood that this amount has been partially re-insured. Tne scow is of the following dimensions : Length, 86ft sin ; breadth. 23ft 7in ; depth, sft lin ; tonnage, 77. No particulars are to hand as to how the casualty happened, but it is presumed that the vessel was driven ashore owing to heavy weather.
