. ' ' ... AUCKLAND. . MESSRS. HUNTER AND NOLAN'S REPORT. Hor9efeed, seeds, grain, etc.: The supply has been sufficient to meet a steady demand. We quote : Maize on wharf, 2s bushel; ex store, 2s 3d to 2s 4d ; feed oats, 2a ; white Tartarian seed, 2s 4d ; dim, 2s 3d; bran, £2 15s ton ; oaten chaff, £2 15s to £3; carrots, 27s 6d to 30s ton. . Horses : Duluess has characterised the market. The number brought forward has has not been large, of an inferior stamp, and there has been little or no alteration in value, but there remained an unsatisfied demand for those of a good stamp in all classes. The entries tor disposal by auction at the Durham Yards on Friday were barely 'up to the average; bidding was fairly good. For hacks, from £4 to £14; light harness, from £5 to £1210s ; medium draught, £7 5s to £14 15s; heavy draught, £12 to £21 103. Wool, hides, skins, bones, tallow: Increased quantities were pitched at the Durham Yards on Tuesday, au«l the demand was good. Sheep : Increased numbers were penned at Newmarket on Tuesday. At the Hay market during the past week meadow hay has brought from 2s 6d to 3s ; oaten sheaves, 2s 9d to 3s cwt; ryegrass seed, 4s 3d; maize, 2s 3d ; wheat, 2s 6d ; oats, is lid to 2s bushel; bonedust, £5 10s ; bran, £2 15s; chaff, £2 15s to £3 1% 6d; potatoes, £2 103 ton. On wharf maize 2s bushel. On Friday horsestock in limited supply were without alteration in values. Choice j heavy draught ranged from £19 to £25; medium draught, £10 to £13; spring carts, £6 and £11 respectively; On Tuesday oxhides brought from 2|d to 4d ; cowhides, ljd to 2d ; calfskins, lid to 28d lb ; tallow, 14s and 16s 1001b ; dry sheepskins, from Is to 3s 4d; frenh skins, 2s to 3s lOd each. At Remuera, on Thursday, dairy cows at profit yarded in less number than usual scarcely kept late values; prices for those sold were from £4 to £7. Store cattle fairly represented sold freely : three year steers in low condition brought £3 15s ; two-year-olds. £3 5s ; yearlings, £212 a ; yearling heifers, £2 10s ; calves, mixed sexes, from £1 2a to £2 Is each. Calves in usual number (54 sold) kept their late values. Fat cattle in less number than average (160 yarded) were steady in price throughout the sale at from £1 2s to £1 3s the lOOlbs. Sheep in average number (1100 yarded) fairly kept previous values ; ewes in lamb brought 9s ; shorn sheep, mixed sexes, 7s 6d ; fat wethers, Pis 3d to 17s 9d ; store wethers, 9a ; fat ewes, 93 to 14s each. Pigs in less supply than usual sold well, and a few turkeys brought from 4a 6d to 9a each. MESSRS. G. W. BINNEV AND SONS' REPORT. On Tuesday competition for hides was not brisk, but prices were fairly maintained. Prime ox are very scarce, and realise high prices ; heavy stout sold from 4d to 4§d ; stout, 3Jd to 33d ; medium, 3d ; light ox and steer, 2£d to 2Jd ; cow, best, 2d to 2£d; medium, l£d; wet and sloppy, l£d to l|d ; calf, 2d to 3|d; stags, Id to l|d lb. Sheepskins : Prices for green and salted, from 2s 3d to 3s each. Tallow: 16s to 19s 9d cwt. Bones and horns : No change. Hams and bacon: Market firm at late quotations. On Tuesday, 31st July, we offered a medium catalogue of hides and skins, which met with good competition, especially prime stout ox, and well-cured sheepskins. Dairy cows sold, from £4 10s to £8 153; spriucing heifers, £4 Is to £5 10s; yearlings, £2 Is. At Opunake, on 24th instant, we had a large muster of stock, mostly of good sorts. Competition was keen, consequently nearly every line was disposed of. At Manaia, on 26th instant, we had a fair entry, and prices on the whole were good. With the exception of three pens, everything was sold. We quote: —At Opunake : Calves, 21s to 245; weaners, 30s to 355 ; weaners to yearlings, 40s to 455; 18-month steers, 50s to 55a; two-year steers, 60s; two-year heifers, 55a to 60s : two and a-half to three-year springers, £4 103 to £5 ss ; dairy cows, £5 5s to £6.
