THE GOLDFIELDS.

[from our own correspondent.] Thames, Friday. Cambria.—This company's usual monthly crushing was completed day, for a return of 51ozs 9dwtß of melted gold, for which 48 loads of general dirt and lOlbs of picked stone were treated, St. Hippo.—A crushing of 22 loads of quartz, broken from the reef in the new intermediate drive now being opened up between the upper and lower levels, was completed at Bull's battery to-day, for the payable return of 40ozs Bdwts of melted gold. ■ MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. Woodstock United (Karangahake, May 3). — A decided change for the better has taken place in the general character of the No. 2 lode, whore it is being driven upon at the No. 3 level, which has been extended a distance of 17 feet since writing my last weekly report. _At the present face this lode is fully ifeet in thickness, and good dish prospects are obtainable from any point of it. Towards the hangingwall ore showing free gold, in company with silver sulphides, is being grassed daily, and there are strong indications of further improvement going southwards. So far nothing has been done to ascertain the size or value of the hanging-wall lode, which we must leave intact till we are ready to timber up the workings. Since the disappearance of' the water good headway has been made with the winze, which is now down tt» a depth of 88 feet, and it la being securely timbered as the work of sinking progresses. Here we are breaking out the No. 2 lode to a width of li feet without any sign of the footwall, and the ore coming to hand therefrom is' of average quality. Samples of ore from the different workings on the No. 2 lode are now being dried preparatory to making a series of 1 assays, which I hone to complete in time to send you the bullion results with my next report. The little mill is running full time, ' and the ore under treatment, from the No. 3 ! level and the winze, is shaping for a good re- ! turn.
