FROZEN MEAT TRADE.
SIGNS OP DEFECTIVE FREEZING. COLD STORAGE. Press Association.— Electric Telegraph.— London, April 26. Mr. Weddel is at Paris urging the French Minister of War to purchase the Timaru's Geelong mutton, and to utilise the ship at Rouen for cold storage purposes. There are complaints that the bones of mutton in all the vessels which have recently arrived from New Zealand have a bad odour. It is believed to be due to defective freezing in the first instance. The Port Said Refrigerating Company has secured a site for a store at Malta at a cost of £40,000. The works will be finished in six months. The Government is directing the construction of a cold store at Gibraltar.
