After agood deal of discussion it was decided that ib is desirable to lay a shearing agreement) before flock owners for consideration, and to meeb them in conference before June for the purpose of completing a universal shed agreement for the South Island ; in the event of nob being able to achieve this that the Conference request the labour members in the House of Representatives to bring in a measure whereby it shall be made incumbent upon employers to pay wages at stated periods to workers engaged by them* lb was resolved to endeavour to have the duty removed from sheep shears, and to urge that better accommodation should be !n'ovided on farms and stations, and that egislation for 48 hours to constitute a week's work be urged. The Conference strongly approved of the organisation of female workers. Ib was resolved to request all shearers visiting Australia to abide by the agreement of 1891. Ib was reported that a ballot recently taken resulted in favour of the name of the Union being altered to the New Zealand Workers Union, the establishment of a newspaper, the free importation of sheep shears and that the benefits' scheme was negatived. The executive was instructed, in view of the voting, to prepare a complete scheme of co-operation to lay before the nexb Conference. The Conference concluded to-night. A motion was carried, "That, in view of the great advantage secured to the workers of this colony as a result of the election of labour representatives, the Conference wished the New South Wales labour party success at the general election in that colony." It was resolved to congratulate the Australian Shearers Union on the successful issue of the recent Conference, which resulted in the amalgamation of the Shearers' and General Labourers Unions. Ib was suggested that the workers in the other colonies be warned ot the true state of the labour market in New Zealand, with the view of preventing an influx into the colony. It was resolved that the next Conference be held at Temuka.
