FIRE AT POKENO.

Mb. J. J. Clarke's residence at Pokeno Valley narrowly escaped beiner destroyed by fire a few days ago. It appears that one of the children went into the room containing the wardrobe during the evening with a lighted candle, and some article of clothing took fire unknown to the child. Shortly afterwards the fire was noticed by an older member of th« family, who immediately gave the alarm. The room was quickly deluged with water, but it was found that everything it contained was entirely destroyed, and the walls were charred and blackened. Mr. Clarke is a heavy loser by the occurrence.—[Own Correspondent.]
