CROWN LANDS BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Crown Lands Board was held on Tuesday, and there were present Mr. G. Mueller (Chief Commissioner and chairman). Major Harris, Messrs. Bagnali, Lundori, and, Thompson. Sale of Lands.— summary of lands disposed of from 10th March to 21st April (six weeks) was read as follows; —Occupation with right of purchase, 7927 acres, lease in perpetuity, 2953 acres; grazing leases, 53,769 acres; for cash, 203 acres 58 selectors of 64,860 acres. Kawhia County.—A scheme for the expenditure of the " thirds " revenue accruing to the county for a road from Mokau Heads to the Aw&kino crossing was approved and recommended. Sulphur Mining.—An application from Mr. Walter Walton for a mineral lease to mine for sulphur on the shores of Lakes Rotorua, Rotoiti, and Tarawera was read. It was explained by the chairman that Rotoiti and Rotorua were not available, and Mr. Kelly, M.H.R., held a lease of the Tarawera deposits, but he had never paid any rents. It was agreed to refuse tho application, also to declare Mr. Kelly's lease forfeited, and to take steps for the recovery of arrears of rent. Miscellaneous.— John Large requested that his tenure might be altered from " cash " to right of purchase, and it was agreed to recommend the Government to grant the application. Mr. W. N. Graham asked for further consideration of his application for reduction of rent, and it was agreed to reply that the law would not admit of the request being compiled with. A timber floating license for the Wairoa River and adjacent streams was granted to Mr. T. W. Slator on payment of a fee of £5, and his entering into a bond of £500. Messrs. R. and J. Mitchelsoa and W. Thome were granted a similar license subject to pavment of a fee of £5 and a bond of £1000. It was agreed to pay over to Mrs. Weber £10 for improvements on a small farm section at Onehunga. Waiuku.— application by Mr F. Earl, on behalf of Mr. P. Denize, of Waiuku, to be allowed to purchase N.E. portion of lot 189, Waiaku East, was agreed to, the price to be £1 10s per acre. Rotorua.—Mr. Charles Kusabs applied for a seven years' lease of the 150 acres village reserve at the Mamaku railway station, near Rotorua. It was pointed out by the Board that if the land were leased for seven years it might create a monopoly.The application was refused. Pukkkohe.—An application by Mr. John Johns to purchase under clause 117, lot 58a, Parish of Pukekohe, was recommended, the price to be £3 3s per acre. Quarry Reserve.—An application from the Otamatea County Council for portion of section 62, parish of' Matakohe, to be vested in them as a quarry reserve, was agreed to. Applications.—A number of applications for land were received and dealt with.
