Mb. John Fuller "farewells" on Monday evening. Mr. J. T. Arundel was a passenger from Sydney by the s.s. Waihora last night. Mr. L. J. Bagnall, of Turua Mills, Thames, leaves to-day for Melbourne, on a business visit. Sir William Robinson, the Governor of Western Australia, is an accomplished musician and composer. Mr. H. Hemus, assistant officer-in-charge at the Auckland Telegraph Department, has resumed duty after a well-earned holiday. Mr. E. S. Duncan, the advance agent of the World's Trio and American Novelty Company, arrived from the South by the Te Anau. His Excellency the Governor, and the Government House party, were at the performance of " Elijah" last evening, by the Choral Society. The Hon. Thomas Dalton, M.L.C., of New South Wales, accompanied by Mrs. Dalton, are passengers for Sydney by the ff.s. Te Anau from the South. Miss Webster, of Deuonport, informs us that she was nominated for the school committee at the meeting on Monday night without her consent, and that she has no ambition to occupy any public position. Among the passengers for Sydney from the South, by the Union S.S. Company's steamer Te Anau, is Mr. Van der Byl, who accompanied His Excellency the Governor and party on their recent trip to the Islands. Dr. Mackellar. a graduates' member of the Auckland University College, retires from that body shortly, and will not stand for re-election. The vacant seat is likely to be contested for by Messrs. J. W. Tibbs and F. E. Baume. Mr. George Fenwick, managing director of the Otago Daily Times Company, in replying to the toast of " The Press" at a banquet in Dunedin recently, said:"ln 1859 he (Mr. Fenwick) joined a journal which followed the Otago News, that journal being the Otago Witness. Since that time they had seen the growth of a huge number of papers in the colony. The Witness progressed till the diggings brought an enterprising lot of people into the colony from Victoria, including Sirthen Mr.—Julius Vogel, Mr. B. L. Farjeon, who was now the well-known novelist, and his respected friend, Mr. George Bell. He remembered well the first night on which the Otago Daily Times was issued. The Btaffof the paper was then composed of a lot of very brilliant men. Mr. Bell was on the staff, Mr. Vogel was editor, Mr. Farjeon was business manager, and on the reporting 3taff were such men as the late Mr. Ebenezer Fox, one of the ablest shorthand writers the colony had ever seen." Yesterday afternoon, at St. Andrew's Church, the marriage was celebrated of Miss Mary Macdonald, younger daughter of Mrs. J. M. Macdonald, of Balbirnie, Albert Park, to Mr. George Hart, of the Bank of New Zealand. There was a very large attendance of friends of both, while some of those to whom Miss Macdonald had endeared herself had decorated the interior of the church most tastefully. The bride, who wore a dress of ivory white Bengaline, with plain skirt and body, trimmed with lace and orange blossom, tulle veil, and orange blossom spray, was " attended by her sister and the Misses Hart (2), and was given away by her uncle, Mr. John Marshall. The first bridesmaid wore white nun's veiling with applegreen silk sleeves and yoke (around which was white lace frilling) and black velvet hat trimmed with apple green. The Misses Hart wore white nun's veiling with primrose silk yokes and sleeves, black hats with primrose silk trimming and primroses. The Rev. Mr. Carrick officiated ab the ceremony, the choir singing appropriate hymns. A3 the bridal party left the church the " Wedding March" was played by Mr. Culpap. Afternoon tea was served at Balbirnie, and in the early evening the newlywedded, pair left for Te Aroha to spend the honeymoon, followed by the best of good wishes for future happiness. The presents were very numerous.
