GUMDIGGERS' EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE.
The following is the report of the Gumdiggers' Executive Committee, dated Dargaville, 14th April, from the secretary, Mr. E. R. EllisThe above committee met in Dargaville on Saturday, 14th April, nine members being present. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was read and attended to. Business: The secretary produced a subscription list showing that the public have subscribed £6 5s 6d towards defraying the expenses of the committee for general management and sending a delegate to the Trades and Labour Councils Conference held in Auckland during Easter week. Proposed by Mr, P. Gardner, seconded by Mr. R. Brydon, "That the secretary reply to letters from the Poroti Gumdiggers' Committee, and send printed circulars to all gumfields requesting all to assist in forming a union for the protection of the gum industry. Carried unanimously. Proposed by Mr. R. Hume, seconded by Mr. J. Dempsey, •• That a local gumdiggers' union be organised by this committee." Carried unanimously. Proposed by Mr. J. Dempsey, seconded by Mr. George Bolland, " That the entrance fee be Is, and contribution fee 6d per month." Carried unanimously. Proposed by Mr. R. Wallen, seconded by Mr. J. Demsey. "That Messrs. FitzPatrick, Gardner, and Ellis, be appointed a committee to draft the rules for the guidance of the local gumdiggers'union." Carried unanimously. Proposed by Mr. R. Hume, seconded by Mr. R. Brydon, "That a deputation from this committee wait upon the Hon. Mr. Reeves when he arrives in Dargaville, and lay before him the grievances under which the gumdiggers are labouring." Carried unanimously. The next general meeting of the committee will I be on the 28th of April, when the local union 1 rules will be laid before the committee.
