Wren wrote asking for a renewal of his lease. It was decided to inform Mr. Wren that the Board had no power to grant a lease except by public auction or tender. Teacher of Cookery. — Mrs. E. J. Kidd wrote stating that owing to the indifferent state of her health, she was compelled to withdraw her application for the post of teacher of cookery at the Grammar School. She recommended in her place a Miss Millington, who had just arrived from England, and who was possessed of a first-class diploma from the Liverpool training school. The matter was referred to the headmaster of the Grammar School.

Wallace Kidd also wrote that the Honorable Colonel Theodore Mineb Haultain had been appointed a governor of the Board by the Senate of the University of Mew Zealand. He also reported thab Professor Frederick Douglas Brown, M.A., had been elected a governor by the members of the Legislative Council and of the House of Representatives. The chairman welcomed the members.

Error in Lease. —Messrs. Whitaker and Russell, on behalf of Mr. Richard Cameron, wrote drawing the attention of the Board to a mistake in the lease hold by Mr. Cameron from the Auckland College and Grammar School Board. The applicant pointed out to the Board that the amount liable to be paid for buildings was £600, and nob £300 as stated in the lease. Mr. Mays recommended the Board to execute the document as suggested by the applicants, as the Board would nob in any nmnner be prejudiced thereby. The matter was referred to the property committee to report upon. Increase of Salary. — The Board decided to raise Miss Morrison's salary to £125 per year. An application for an increase from Miss Wallace was deferred until the end of the year, when a revision of salaries may take place. Application for Compensation.Mr. George Strong asked the Board to re-con-sider his application for compensation for the cottage he built on a leased allotment in Bedford-street, Parnell, about eight years ago, at the cost of £110. The application was declined.

Headmaster's Report. — Mr. J. W. Tibbs, headmaster of the Grammar School, reported that the numbers on the roll were still increasing. Thirteen new pupils had entered the school ab or about the mid term. The number on the roll at the present time was 341 (183 boys and 158 girls), as against 263 (137 boys and 126 girls) at the end of 1893. The headmaster requested the Board to consider the question of increased accommodation for the girls, after dismissal from the class rooms. It was very undesirable, on the score of health, that in bad weather girls should be compelled to remain during the intervals, and at luncheon time, in the same rooms in which they had been taught. Formerly they had been obliged to sit in the corridors or in the class rooms, until he allowed them the use of the gymnasium at such times as it was free. He suggested that a portion of the playground be covered by roofing in one of the basements and by dividing it off from the boys' side. The matter was referred to the property committee to have a plan and estimate of cost prepared, and to report to the next meeting. Use of Lecture Hall.—The Rev. Canon Nelson asked for the use of the lecture hall on the occasion of the laying of the foundation stone of St. Paul's new church.
