THE INSPECTOR-GENERAL OF SCHOOLS ASSAULTED.
[by telegraph.—press association.] Wellington, Friday. A pec liar assault case was reported this afternoon. A plasterer named Isaiah Fake had a son committed to the Caversham Industrial School some three years ago, and a short time back the boy was put to service under Mr. W. M. Evans, a farmer at Otipiri Flat, VVyndham, Otago. To-day Fake received a wire that his son was drowned, and he at once repaired to the Government Buildings. He entered the Education Department, and seizing the Rev. W. J. Habens, the Inspector-General of Schools, shtfok him savagely, accusing him of being responsible for the boy's death. Assistance was Boon at hand, and after a severe struggle Fake was secured and handed over to the police. The accused was remanded. No bail was allowed.
