Jones, the hangman, received a letter from the assistant; hangman stating that he declined to hang the condemned woman Knorr. Jones himself was strongly averse to undertaking the operation, and this apparently preyed on his mind. Ha proceeded to his room in the gaol and committed suicide by cutting his throat
