It is usual in many of the old world cities to bring relief to impoverished artists by art unions of their pictures, not only securing relief by the money raised, but often establishing a market for the future works of men who, but for this introduction to the world's buyers might have laboured unsuccessfully for years. Here at the antipodes the art union principle is applied to seeking to realise upon the assets of the Queensland Deposit Bank, by the Equitable Building Society, of Brisbane, which it is believed will enable the bank to keep faith with its depositors and save hardship and suffering to many hundreds connected with it. The effort has attracted sympathy on all sides, and the committee of management, who are men of high standing, are to be congratulated upon being able to declare the date of closing of the share list, which it will be seen by advertisement in our columns is fixed for the 30th November instant. The Equitable Building Society—duly incorporated by Act of Parliament under authority of the Crown law officers— at no profit from the properties to be distributed, and the names associated with it have from the first carried to the public an absolute assurance of its bona fiats. The share list is now rapidly filling, and with the list closing on 30th November intending investors will do well to secure their shares without delay from the local agents, brokers, or secretary.
