WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL.

At the County Council meeting, on Wednesday, at Ohaupo, Mr. F. W. Lang was unanimously re-elected chairman, Mr. E. DeC. Drury clerk, and Mr. A. Armstrong engineer. The representatives, namely, Messrs. Lang, Smith, Teasdale, and Kusabs, were elected to represent the County of Waipa on the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. A fortnight was allowed to Mr. Tebbs to commence th« work at Dawson's Hill, the engineer to re-let the same if the work is not commenced. The clerk reported that the overdraft, not including the day's accounts, a further sum of £250, amounted to £353 68 6d. The clerk was instructed to sue al ratepayers whose rates were outstanding two years, and a sum of £13 was voted him for preliminary expenses. Mr. Fawkes was authorised to get the work of clearing-out the 15 chains of the ditch on the Hamil-ton-Whatawhata swamp road done to the satisfaction of the engineer. Mr. Allen proposed that the councillors do the work gratuitously for the present year. Seconded by Mr. Kusabs. Mr. Teasdale moved as an amendment that the councillors be paid. Messrs. Mandeno, Allen, and Kusabs voted for the motion, and Messrs. Finch, Teasdale, Smith, Atkinson, and Fawkes against it. The following tenders were dealt with —Day labour, Ngaruawahia to Stone's corner : R. Fleming accepted; man, 5s per day ; horse and dray, 9s. Innisfallen Road, surfacing: The tenders were over till next meeting, to allow of Mr. Lang being present. They were R. Carter : Surfacing, 5s 6d per chain ; side ditches, 19s 6d per chain; plank crossing, each £8; bushfelling, £10. Peter Rice, 4s 6d, £1, £7, and £12. W. Given and Co., 10s, £1 ss, £6; and bush-felling, £1 10s. Mr. Webber's tender of formation, 7s per chain, pipes 12s 6d per set, and side ditches 3s per chain, for works from Riggs' corner to fingerpost, was accepted. The tender of Giles and Vickers, 6s per chain, for formation of Rotorangi swamp road, was accepted. The tender of the same parties for gravelling the road, at £1 10s per chain, was declined, as being considered too high. There was no other tender for this contract.
