EXPORTS. Per Clansman, for Lyttelton : 100,000 feet white pine timber (to be shipped at the Thames). Per Defiance, for Sydney: 180,000 feet sawn kauri timber (to be shipped at Kaipara). The island steamer Richmond arrived from Tahiti and Rarotonga yesterday morning with a cargo of fruit, pearl shell, etc. Captain R. G. Hutton reports that the steamer left Auckland for her usual trip on Tuesday, 22nd August, at 1.30 p.m., and arrived at Rarotonga at 6.30 p.m. on Tuesday, the 29th, having experienced light easterly and south-easterly winds and fine weather the whole way. Left* for Tahiti shortly after midnight the same date, driving at Papeete at 8 a.m. on the 2nd inst., having called at Mauki and Huaheine en route. Left Papeete at 5 p.m. the same day to load fruit at Tauhia, finally leaving Tahiti at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, the sth, and arrived at Rarotonga on the 9th at 6 a.m. Completed loading and left for Auckland at 10 p.m. the same date. Light variable winds and fine weather were encountered until Friday, the 15th, when in about latitude 32 degrees south the wind shifted into the S.W. with strong breeze and head sea, J which lasted until arrival at the Barrier at 4 a.m. yesterday, the steamer berthing at the Railway Wharf about 10 o'clock. The Richmond leaves for Rarotonga and Tahiti on Thursday. The Union S.S. Company's steamer Southern Cross, Captain J. S. Adams, arrived from Wellington, Napier, and the East Coast yesterday morning. Mr. C. S. Stevens, the purser, reports that the steamer left Wellington at 6 p.m. on the 12th instant, reaching Napier at 8 p.m. on the 13th. Left again at 4 p.m. on the 14th, called at Gisborne, Tologa Bay, and Tuparoa on the loth, and dropped anchor at miduight in Hick'a B'.y. Left the next morning at 6 o'clock, and arrived as above. Experienced light variable winds to the East Cape, thence strong " westerly winds to Hicks Bay, where shelter was taken for six hours; thence light westerly winds to

Company's steamer Poherua was announced to leave Suva for this port about' the 16th instant with a cargo of raw sugar. . , After a smart round trip the Union S.S. Company's steamer Kanieri, Captain Thomas Braidwood, arrived yesterday at noon from Napier, Gisborne, and the East Coast. Mr. W. Barclay, the purser, reports :—Left Gisborne at 8 p.m. on the 14th instant, working Tologa Bay, Tokomaru, Waipiro, Tuparoa, Awanui, and Te Araroa on the 15th, anchoring at the latter port till daylight on the 16th. Called at Oreti Point and Te Kaha on the 16th, leaving the latter port at 2 p.m. the same day for Auckland, and arriving as above Strong and variable winds and fine weather hare been experienced throughout the trip. The Moa leaves for the same places again to-day at 4 p.m. The Northern S.S. Company's steamer Waiotahi arrived from Opotiki and Taurauga on Saturday morning, with a cargo of 530 sacks maize, and a quantity of sundries. She leaves for the same places again to-morrow evening. On Saturday night the Northern S.S. Company's steamer Argyle arrived from Tairua, Mercury Bay, and Kuaotnnu with a quantity of kauri gum and sundries She leaves for Kuaotunu and Mercury Bay this evening, and returns to-morrow night, leaving for the Great Barrier at midnight. The Northern S.S. Company s steamer Clansman arrived from Taurauga early yesterday morning. She leaves for Russell, Whangaroa, and Mangonui this evening. On Saturday morning the brig Vision sailed for the Thames, where she completes her loading of timber for Sydney. The brigantine Defiance sailed for Kaipara on Saturday with the following cargo : —67 tons coal, 5000 bricks, 50 bags lime, 6 bags cement, 12 cases iron, 2 boxes and 1 keg nails. At Kaipara the vessel loads timber for Sydney. She was at anchor under Rangitoto yesterday. On Saturday the schooner Clansman was cleared at the Customs for the Thames, where she loads timber at Bagnall's Mill, Turua, for Lyttelton. She will be towed down by the tugboat Vivid this morning. The schooner Sarah Pile berthed at the Railway Wharf on Saturday to discharge her cargo from Norfolk Island. t At nine o'clock this morning the Northern S.S. Company's steamer Chelmsford leaves for YVhaugainataand Whakatane. Captain C. Spiuks arrived by the Union S.S. Company's steamer Takapuna on Saturpuna night, and has assumed command of the s.s. Rotokino. The brigantine Linda Weber had arrived at Rarotonga from Wellington, previous to the departure of the Richmond, and was on a cruise around the Group. > The schooner Norval, which was released recently from the natives at Penrhyn Island, was on a cruise through the Cook Group when the Richmond was at Rarotonga. The cargo steamer Indramayo, under charter to the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company, may be expected to arrive at this port from Loudon about Thursday next. The barque Excelsior, from Auckland, in ballast, arrived at Sydney on the 7th instant, and anchored in Johnstone's Bay. She left Auckland on the 18th ult., and ten days after was 200 miles east of Port Jackson Heads, having experienced favourable though light winds. She afterwards encountered several heavy gales from south-east, but came through the storm without injury. The four-masted ship Port Jackson has had the damage sustained by fire made good at Mort's Dock, Sydney, and is now in the dock being cleaned and painted. She is expected to leave for Newcastle shortly, to load for London.

ICEBERGS SIGHTED.

Shipping advices to Lloyd's state, under date of London, the 31st of July, the Duncraig, from Napier (New Zealand), arrived in the river reports—l7th, ISth. 19th, and 20th of May passed a great number of large and small icebergs in Tat. 52' S. to 48 S., loug. 45"20 W. The wind was mostly on the 17th, ISth, and 19th northerly and calm. On the 20th it came from the S. W., so we got out of the dangerous lots. London, August 1 : The Highland Forest, from Timaru (New Zealand), arrived in the river, reports :—On the 27th, 28th, and 29th of May passed over 150 icebergs, averaging from half a mile to a mile long, and from 350 feet to 500 feet high. The following was reported at San Francisco on the 12th of June: The master of the Castle Rock, from Calcutta, reports on the Ist of April, in lat. 40" S.. long. 92" E., a whirlwind passed over the ship, first striking her fiat aback with great fpree, then in a second striking her straight aft with such force that it brought the lower mizzen topsail yard down in two halves, then in another two seconds burst out on the starboard beam, and threw her lee topgallantrail under water.
