DEPUTATION TO THE COLONIAL TREASURER.

A imputation* of those interested in the wholesale and retail tobacco trade waited an the Colonial Treasurer this afternoon in reference to the Tobacco Act Amendment Bill. Mr. Ward said it was not the intention that this Bill should be gone on «i;!i this year, but that it should be circulated through the country, and for this purpose it was to be taken to its secoml reading. He explained that the primary object of the Bill was to protect revenue as there were some tobacconists who were believed to be evading the law. ,
