THE MEETING RE FEMALE FRANCHISE.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—Your report yesterday and subloader to-day would lead the public to think it was a member of our League who attempted to lead off our opponents from the platform. Allow me to say she was a stranger to us, but I suppose her spirit was roused at the sight of so much unmanlmesa that she could not desist doing what, she could to show her disapprobation. We thank her for her womanly courage. The reference to beer by one of the speakers was no doubt a result of the disturbance, as it is beyond question that it was caused by a contingent of Captain Bung's Army.—l am, etc., July 1!), 1«93. President VV.F. L.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir—lt is a great pity that this agitation on the part of a section of the fair sex should in any way receive encouragement. The object to be gained is not one to recommend itself to the intelligence of womankind, and if the movement is to be recognised, it means nothing more or less than a vote of no-eonh-dence upon the free and enlightened electors of our own sex. Woman's sphere in life has been, is, and we hope will be. home and its adjuncts. There woman is in her element; there she shines; she believes in her bus-
band. She knows his judgment on extraneous matters is beyond her attempts at improvements, and she is content to believa so. But if she is weak enough to lend an ear to the utterauees of My Lady Canvasser ar My Lady Agitator, then woe is the day. Distrust in Iter husband's political ideas will be the first false step. Then follows swiftly discord. It is right enough, I dare nay, for those ladies whose time hanga heavy (that leisured class) to take up a fad of this sort, but, sir, the average woman has, as a rule, her mind occupied with the cares of a family, and if asked to give an opinion on this matter, replies, ".Stuff and nonsense ; I have no time nor inclination to think of such a thing," —I am, etc., Dkwardo.
