Ayoijxo min named Phelan met with* painful accident on Thursday afternoon. llwas riding on the top of a load of furze, when the animal attached to the vehicle bounded forward, and the S'idden jerk upset the lad on the road, breaking his arm and dislocating his elbow.

The recent heavy min has undermined the pier at the north sale of the Waiongona bridge, which has canted the bridge oil the level, and broken one of the main stringer*. News was brought toWaitara on Tuesday last, to the effect that '.he s.s. Waitara had become a total wreck at the mouth of d-<s Mokau river. The Wtitara was 2G tons register, in charge of Crptain Tinner; on attempting to get out ol the Mokau river with a cargo of coal, took \he ground inside the bar. Losing her steerug way, she was washed on to the rocks on 'die south side, and immediately went to p'eces. She was valued at about £800, and ownul by Captain Turner. She was uninsured.

The exports for the month of June, from the breakwater, are as follows :—Uutter, 109,124 lbs; lb' cases cheese, 50 cajes tallow, 215 bales flax, (J!) bales fungus, 5 caies hoiuv, 219 sacks potatoes, '200 sacks grass seed, StW feet timber, 134 cattle, 124 sheep and 10 horses.

It is rumoured the s.s. Kanieri will take up her running in the Waitara trade at tie end of this month.

At a meeting of tho committee if the Chamber of Commerce, hold on Thursday, the following resolutions wore passe} -.— " That as the charges on the New Plymoul) breakwater line, are heavier than on aiy similar line in the colony, this Chatnb>r respectfully requests the Railway Coninii:. sioners to reduce the charges by at least li per ton ; also, the chairman and secretary enquire into the banks' exchange rates in Mew Plymouth, as against charges made iu other provincial districts, and if there bj any difference, that they endeavour to get it rectified.
