POPULATION OF THE COLONY.
EXCESS OF ARRIVALS OVER DEPARTURES. [BY TELEGRAPH.press association.] Wellington, Thursday. The estimated population of the colony, exclusive of Maoris, on tho 31st March was : Male*. 348,670 females, 307,509 total, 656,179. The Maori population was set down at 41,993. The immigration and emigration returns for April enow that the arrivals were 2394 and the departures 1909. The arrivals were: From the United Kingdom, 289; New South Wales, 1058; Victoria, 954; Tasmania, 55; other places, 38. The departures were: To the United Kingdom, 323; Queensland, 2; New South Wales, 905; Victoria, 511; Tasmania, 60; other places, 102. During the month 17 Chinese arrived and 7 left the colony.
