[BY TKLEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.! Wellington, Sunday. His Excellency has remitted the remainder of the sentence of two months' imprisonment imposed upon Mr. E. A. Haggen, for criminal libel, two-thirds of which has been served, and he was released yesterday. His Excellency has also remitted the fine of £50 imposed by the Court. ; The total number of telephone connections in the colony is 3485. Mr. Duthie denies Mr. Fisher's statement that he gave a promise not to contest the mayoralty. At Tennyson Smith's farewell he expressed surprise at the indifference with which teetotallers had received the news of the abandonment of the Women's Franchise Bill, and said he expected indignation meetings would be held immediately from Auckland to the Bluff protesting against it. He denouueed by name so-called friends of temperance among members who had assisted to throw the Bill out. Gkeymouth, Saturday. The coal export for the week amounted to 2, 162 tons. Napikr, Saturday. A small house in Shakespeare Road was totally destroyed by fire at two a.m. to-day. Insurances, £200; furniture, £100 both in the Norwich Union.
