THE NORTH NEW ZEALAND GRAND
NATIONAL MEETING. At Ellerslie, Fabulous and Fishmonger continue to go on most*satisfactorily in their training, and Chance, who has not been quite himself of late, is now sho wing signs of improvement. Wagering on the Grand National Hurdle Race and Great Northern Steeplechase continues to be fairly brisk. Couranto, Grlenelfc, Fabulous, and Lonely are quoted equal favourites for the Hurdle Race at 5 to 1, and for the Great Northern Steeplechase Couranto is at the head of affairs at 4 to 1. General entries in connection with the meeting are due to-night at ten o'clock. The privileges of the meeting will be submitted to auction to-day, at noon, by Messrs. Tonks and Co. SYDNEY TURF CLUB. The following was the result of the principal event: —
Royal, Stakes of ssovs each, with 400sovs added. The owner of the second horse to receive 50sovs, and the owner of the third horse, 25sovs. Six furlongs. Mr. G. Hill's ch g Shamrock, 6yrs, by Marvellous—Mavourneen, 7st 91b ... 1 Mr. T. Ivory ns ch g Curnino, 2yrs, 6st 2 The Swell, 7st 3 There were 28 starters. Shamrock won by half a head. Time, lm. 16£s. DUNEDIN JOCKEY CLUB. Ditnedin, Thursday. Thirty-four nominations have been received by the Ounedin Jockey Club for the Champagne Stakes, to be run at the Autumn Meeting in 1893. Mr. D. O'Brien is the largest nominator, with four, Messrs. Stead and McKinnon following, with three each. Mr. Laughlin is the largest winner in connection with the Birthday Meeting, with £453, then comes Mr. D. Rutherford, £254 12s, and Mr. C. Hobbs, £161 10s. The others all below £100. The Government totahsator tax amounts to £170 Is Bd.
Nominations for the various events of the Pakuranga Hunt Club's Meeting are due tonight at ten o'clock, at the office of the secretary, Mr. H. H. Hayr, City Chambers.
