The barque Elizabeth, bound from Sydney to Rotterdam with a cargo of shale, struck on a rock COO miles northeast of Rockhampton. The captain and crew remained on board for sixteen days, and then the vessel sank. They put to sea in an open boat, and had drifted fifteen days before being picked up by a passing steamer near Clairmont Island.

Tne Government have decided to grant individual relief in special cases of destitute and unemployed. NEW SOUTH WALES ASSURANCE CORPORATION. Sydney, May 25.. At the annual meeting of the New South Wales Assurance Corporation, the report stated that the operations had been very unfortunate, and there was a debit balance on the year ot £5000. Steps had been token to curtail the expenses of the English branches, but the directors thought it would be a mistake to wind up. Some irritation was expressed by shareholders, many of whom were in favour of winding the company up. Eventually the report was received.
