THE GOLDFIELDS.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—-OWN" CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Friday. Pride of Karaka.— Both the drive upon the Pride of Karaka reef and the one upon the McKenzie's reef towards the Oriental section have been suspended for the present, and stoping upon 'die McKen/.io's reef is now the only work in progress in the mine. This step has been taken evidently for the purpose of economising the company's funds tor a while.
May Queen. —All the men that were engaged in stoping upon No. 4 reef, above No. 2 level in the old section, have now been dismissed, and operations suspended at that point altogether, the block having become exhausted; consequently the only works now in progress are the eastern drive at No. 2 level, and the drive at No. 3 level going towards the Queen of May shaft. MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. Otama (Kuaotunu). — Main drive : The country here during the latter part of the week has been very tight, and the leader has been pinched up, but there is a change of country coming in today of kindly sandstone, and a few stones showing gold were obtained. No. 2 stope has been completed, but there has been no change in the leader, it being very much disturbed, owing to the country being of a tight nature.
