Mr. Richard Arthur's Weekly Retort. —The week has been a busy one in all departments ; although no improvement in the price, there has been in the demand for potatoes : a largo quantity lias been sold, all seed have been cleared. There was an enquiry for new potatoes, but none have come to hand. Onions : Only sound ones will sell, and for..these the demand is limited, all others have to go at any juice. Pumpkins : None to band. Carrots: Only a few red ones to hand: white ones have been asked for. A few citron melons bought 2s 7d per cut. Vegetables sold well, the supply below the average. Cheese : Really good quality is wanted, none ou hand ; but few of any description. Bacon and hams : The demand does not improve : low prices have to be taken to effect sales. Butter in very short supply, no fresh to hand ; t there was good enquiry. Eggs : But few enI tered ; ■ these sold at 7d per dozen. Groceries, oilmen's stores, etc., brought good prices at auction. Poultry brought very high prices .Household furniture and effects at private houses brought first class prices. ■ There have been two sales held; there was at each a crowded attendanco, and first-class competition. There have been three sales by auction this week. Tuesday, at Mart: A freehold property in Beresford-street, an allotment. 40 by *90 feet, with two cottages, sold at £';!00 cash. Several properties in the Waikato were sold by order of the Registrar, and were bought in by the mortgagee. Tuesday, at the Mart: Stock' of groceries, oilmen's stores, provisions, etc., good prices were obtained. Wednesday, the residence of Mr. A. I. Brewer, Cobden-street, Newton : His household furniture and effects, first-class priccs were obtained, many buyers could not get into the rooms, being so crowded. Thursday, at the residence of _ Mr. R. 11. Abbott, Mount Eden Road, his household furniture and effects. There was a very large attendance, and the prices realised were moat satisfactory. Messrs. Esam and Arthur's Weekly Ri.rur.T.—Since our last prices of produce have undergone but little change, except potatoes and butter, both of which may lie reported lower in price. The market is again glutted with Southern potatoes, and prices arc just what buyers choose to give. Napiers have been sold as low as .'sos a ton, and »/e shall not be surprised to see prices still lower. Waikato seed are v perfect glut, coming entirely to the inferior quality. In cereals prices remain about the same, particularly for seed purposes. Dairy produce : Prime fresh butter is coming forward in such increasing quantities that values have receded somewhat, and we think rates will be still lower next week. Eggs ore very plentiful, and pell readily, but at low figures. The supply of local bacon has not been so large this week : the demand is steady. Cheese of mild finality commands good competition, but the market is principally confined to No. 2 and No. 3 grades. ruit: We held a large sale of Tasmania!) and Island fruits on Tuesday, which realised satisfactory prices. Apples, 9-s to 12s 3d per case; peanuts, 2d to 2id per lb; cocoanuts, 6s Od per sack. The supply of local fruit, except lemons, is now small. Lemons are very* low in price. Poultry: The supply continues good. We had a large number of turkeys; but fowls were more limited, although the quality was excellent. Pigs come forward in good supply, and meet with steady sale.
