J THE ROYAL TAR FATALITIES. Sydney, September 10. Captain Franklin, of the . barque Royal Tar, who died on the passage to Sari Francisco, was formerly chief officer of Ellis'steamer Jubilee. LIBEL ACTION. Melbourne, September 10. In the libel action, McCormick v. Cuthbert, in which the plaintiff, a magistrate, claimed £5000 damages from the defendant, formerly Minister of Justice, for inferring he had corruptly adjourned certain cases, a verdict was returned on general grounds against Cutlibert for £50. A question submitted by the defence that the Minister, in writing on matters of State, is absolutely privileged was reserved for a full Court.
