. Valparaiso, September 9. A SYNDICATE of European capitalists, out of sympathy with the Junta, offers to advance half a million of money. Washington, September 9. The Government has quashed proceedings in the case against the steamship Itata, which esccped from San Diego, Lower California, after loading munitions of war for Chilian insurgents. • London, September 9. An injunction has been granted at the instance of the Chilian Junta ordering the steamship to whom the silver on board the Esp&gle was transferred not to part with it.
CANADIAN AFFAIRS.
(I Ottawa, September 9. In the Senate to-day Premier Abbott opposed the resolution urging Canada to initiate overtures with other colonies for closer union with Great Britain, arguing that the proposal pointed at Imperial Federation, winch the Parliament was not prepared to decide on. The resolution was withdrawn. The majority of the Committee of Inquiry exonerate Sir H. Langeviu from the charges brought against him.
• THE McKINLEY TARIFF. London, September 9. Inquiries made as to the effect of the McKinley tariff indicate that in occasions much less injury to trade in the United Kingdom than was at first, expected. The exports to America for the first quarter of 1891 show an actual increase over the corresponding period of the previous year.
