RE CLOSING OF ROAD.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— your report of the proceedings of the Waitemata County Council, contained in Saturday's issue, I observe that you state that a petition signed by several settlers of this district had been received asking for the re-opening of the road through my property : at Hellyer's Creek, which had been closed by myself. _ Such statement is inaccurate and misleading. The road as defined in my Crown grant has not been closed, nor have I power, however much I wished to do so. Yet this road cannot be used by the public, because Jhere is no continuation of it through my neighbour's property to form a connecting link with the rest of the road. A new line of road was surveyed through my property, but not formally taken over, and it was disallowed by the Land Transfer Office when obtaining a new title to my land. I suppose the public have believed that because a line was pegged out they had a right-of-way over it, but such was not the case in this instance. The insertion of this correction will oblige the owner, VV. Dawson. Hellyer's Creek, September 8,1891.
