Saxon.-Contrary to expectation, tho do--1 sired connection between the drainage I crosscut from che Prince Imperial shaft, ; and the Saxon No. 6 level has not yet taken pUce, although the full distance laid down by the surveyor has been driven. The wori, however, is being pushed ahead with at' speed, and a connection may be effccto* at any moment. Sv'Via Gold and Silver Mining Com-paq.—Cleaning-up and retorting for this company took place to-day after a monthly r /n, but the return came to hand so late /hat Dr. Scheidel was unable to inform tho Auckland Board of the result. That gentleman, however, informs me the return is a most satisfactory one, and that it will be made public to-morrow morning. Warden's Court.—Tho Warden this morning, upon the application of Mr. Miller, decided to allow a period of seven days in which the fine of £5 could bo paid which was inflicted upon the proprietors of the Shotover claim in the Shellback Creek yesterday for non-working of the ground ; failing tho payment of fine within the period mentioned tho claim will be forfeited.

MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. John 801 l (Knaotunu). — The mine manager telegraphed, yesterday:—" Touched what appears to be a big reef in the low level. Heavy rush of water." May Qukex.— 10 feet of the No. 4 lode, in the eastern drive at 2 level, was broken down to-day. There is good mineral and silica through the quartz. Gold was .seen freely through the lode. The lode is about 2 i'ect 0 , inches in thickness, and incased in a splendid class of country. Now, that the eastern drive on No. 4 lode is away clear of thecrosscut.l will have all the mullock eleaned out from the western drive at No. 2 level. When this is clone, I will put on three shifts to drive west on No. 4 lode at No. 2 level. The contractors for sinking the shaft completed their contract yesterday. The guides are now in the shaft, and both cages are working to No. 2 level, and the engine is doing the work well. Woodstock United (Ivarangaliake).—The trial crushing of ten tons litis just been completed at Mr. Cox's mill, where cleaning un and retorting will take place to-day, and I will have the bullion incited and its value ascertained by to-morrow evening if possible, So far as 1 can at present judge the all-round return will be 4ox per ton or thereabouts, and the bullion should realize over 50s per ounce. Owing to this ore l>ein» very heavily mineralised, it was somewhat difficult to treat in the pans, but we have now got into the right system of dealing with it, and better icsults may be looked for in the future. The stonebreaker is now at work reducing the roughs from the tine low sample, preparatory to mixing and sampling the lot, with a view to ascertaining its assay value. Rising from the 4th stope on the No. 3 lode low level is now in progress, and driving on the same lode from the tramline is also fairly underway. In the last mentioned workings the best of the ore seems to be uuderfoot, so tar as present operations have gone.
