THE CAPPING CEREMONY AT DUNEDIN.
[BY TEI.EGRAVH. —PKKSS ASSOCIATION.] Dcjnkdin, Friday. The ceremony of presenting diplomas! gained at the last New Zealand University examination took place this evening in the Garrison Hall, which was crammed to tha doors. Sir R. Stout, representing the Chancellor, presided, and presented thfl . diplomas as follow: —M.A. 7, including Miss Gifford, of Auckland ; 8.A., 17, including four ladies; JLL.B., 2; M.8., 3. Speeches were delivered by Sir Robert Stout, Mr. J. McGregor, and Rev. Dr. Stevens, who all received a fair hearing. The students had their orchestra present, and played the " Dead March" when reference was made to an under-graduate who had died from cold caught after last year's ceremony. The usual songs were rendered, four of them being original and appropriate to the occasion, and there was an excellent caricature illustrating a recent medical fracas. In the orchestra was a student representing Father Time with .scale and hour glass, which was duly turned when the speeches were becoming wearisome, the speakers taking the hint. Sir R. Stout thanked tho students for their excellent behaviour.
