The barque Ellen Reekman, from Newcastle to Penang, is posted as missing. The New Zealand Insurance Company had a line of £500 upon Burston's malthouse, Melbourne. The strike of employees in the Thames ironworks has ended in the directors conceding the men's demand. The Lizzie Horton, of Sydney, waa wrecked in a hurricane on Gullinare shoala and sank, but the crew were saved. The anniversary of the surrender of Napoleon at Sedan was observed throughout Germany with unusual fervour. It is reported that a district governor in Nicaragua and six of his men were killed in frustrating an attempt to release soma prisoners. Mr. T. Mann is urging upon the trade unionists that it is waste of energy to send their best organisers into Parliament, and that the movement is premature. , The cricket match between the South and North (England), owing principally to the bowling of Lohman, ended in the defeat of the North by a narrow margin of six runs. Murdoch, Ferris, and S. M. J. Woods played for the South.
