NEW ZEALAND RIFLE ASSOCIATION.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—PIIKSS ASSOCIATION. J Wellington, Thursday. A denotation from tho New Zealand Rifle Association, consisting of Majors Sommerville and Donald, and Captain Griffiths, accompanied by local M.H.R.'s, waited on tho Defcncc Minister this evening for the purpose of ascertaining what assistance might bo expected in obtaining and preparing a permanent lie range in Wellington for the annual gathering of the Association and the use of warships frequenting the colony. The Defence Minister replied ho was fully of opinion that if a colonial rifle range was to bo established it should be near Wellington, as being the most central. He was, however, not in a position to make any direct promise of pecuniary assistance owing to such a large amount having to be taken from the volunteer vote for the purchase of the Polhill Gully range, but as tho question was 01 importance lie would bring it before the Cabinet. The question of ammunition was raised, and Mr. Seddon expressed himself as being willing to do all he could for the volunteers, and said he was arranging for a supply, which', he believed, would be much cheaper than the present rate.
