Fergusson said that France would be asked to explain the apparent interference with British rights in reference to the recent action of the French Admiral in Newfoundland. London, June 3. The Government has protested against the threat made by the French Admiral to seize boats supplying bait to American fishermen in George's Bay, New-j foundland. The delegates from Newfoundland • are assisting Lord Knutsford to prepare a measure in which it is proposed to deal with the vexed question of fisheries in that colony in a permanent manner. . Washington, June 2. It is reported that the American Government has sent an ironclad _to George's Bay to inquire into the action of the French Admiral in prohibiting the sale of bait to American vessels.
