THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
; V [by telegraph.—own CORRKSPONDENT.] i •■, / Wellington, Wednesday.. Thehe was quite a circumstantial rumour; to-day ; that.- four gentlemen, Messrs. I E. Richards, W. :C. Waters, Larnach, ; and Montgomery,; were to be called to the Upper House, to occupy the places of the late Sir Wm. Fitzherbert, the late W. Reeves, the late Mr. Petre, and Mr. Wigley. I made inquiry on the subject of the only member of the Cabinet who happened to be disengaged. He said such a thing could not be decided without coming before the Cabinet. . No such decision had been taken ; no discussion on the subject had taken place ; a 'Cabinet meeting bad not been held for more than a week; there was no foundation for the rumour ; nothing would bejdono .in that direction before the' meeting of Parliament. ■ • >
