A MAORI CHIEF SERIOUSLY SCALDED.
[by telegraph.—own correspondeitt.] . ,"j RoTOKtTA,^Monday, The well-known chief, Pohereko Ngahurahuru, was severely scalded in one of the springe in the.native settlement on Saturday night. It appears he had juWleft; one of the baths, in which he had remained too' long , , and got somewhat dizzy, and staggered into a spring. His legs and hands are most affected. Seeiujf the natives are so indifferent to the, protection of their own lives, it is clearly the duty of ! the authbrities; to fence round the most dangerous springs, o£ which thero are many just alougeide the footpath.
