The late Harbour Master at the Bay 1 of Islands, Captain Best, is in town, having been retrenched. It appears that another officer fills his place, so that the post is not as was imagined to bo abolished. Other officers in the Auckland district in the Public Works Department have to leave at the end of this month, some of them are to be replaced,
