THE TEMPERANCE PARTY AND PROHIBITION.

[by telegraph.— ASSOCIATION.] Donedin, Friday. The Temperance party, in a manifesto, announce that, if elected, licensees will be given twelve months' notice before prohibition is brought into operation. Christchurch, Friday. The Sydenham licencing election to-day resulted in a decisive victory for the prohibitionists, who put in all their nominees for the committee by a large majority. As they have aunounced their intention of closing all the publichouses in Sydenham there was great excitement. Both parties worked desperately. The candidates returned :—Rev. >L. M. Isitt, 669 G. G.; Smith, 637 ; W. J. Rudd, 635 ; J. Hopper, 632; Beattie, 625. The highest of the Moderate party's candidates was \V White, senr., 425. 1122 electors voted out of 1550 on the roll.
