THE CHAIRMANSHIP OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION:
MR, UDY RE-ELECTED. The annual election of a chairmau of the Auckland Board of Education took place ac a meeting of that body; yesterday. Mr. Coopkr proposed, "That Mr. Udy be re-elected the chairman for the ensuing year." He pointed out that Mr. Udy had had twelve mouths' apprenticeship in the chair, and was very competent to hold the office. He had shown an intelligent interest in the business of the Board, and had performed his duties in an exceedingly impartial manner. Ho believed that he would be a very excellent chairman in the future as he had been in the past. Mr. Lennox seconded the motion. Mr. Moir said that, as one of the new members, ho supported the motion for the reelection of Mr. Udy. That gentleman had taken a manly and honourable course to the best of his ability in removing what he considered the anomalies conuected -with the Board. He had tried his best, but was not successful. Probably, however, he would try again. The motion was agreed to. Mr. Udy returned thanks, and said he would endeavour to administer the affairs of the Board to the best of his ability, as in the past. He did not think it right to lose this opportunity of expressing his thanks for the able and willing assistance he had had from the officers of the Board. Without the assistance given him in the office he would never have got on half so well. Returns entailing a great amount of work had been cheerfully prepared whenever ho had asked for them. He thanked the officers heartily for the assistance they had given him.
