The Union Company will send a plant to New Plymouth by a steamer to night, for the purpose of getting the Wanaka off. A nautical inquiry into the circumstances connected with the stranding of the steamer will be held at New Plymouth on Saturday.

The Italian Minister of War is at present engaged in considering a new type of repeating rifle invented by a lieutenant of Bersaglieri. The new weapon only weighs three kilos, has a smaller bore than the Lebel rifle, and the inventor maintains that it will fire 200 rounds a minute.
