LOST ON MOUNT EGMONT.

[BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.]

Stratford, Monday. A sad fatality is believed to have occurred at Mount Egmont between Thursday and Saturday last. A young man named William Southwood left here on horseback to make the ascent, and not having returned on Friday, a party went to look for him on Friday night, After having a terribly rough time, they found his horse, overcoat, and pocket-book. Yesterday a search party of twenty-nine, with Constable Levy, went up, but only found his gun and leggings. Just below the snow-line a heavy snow storm compelled them to return to the camping ground. Three of the party stayed there all night, intending to resume the search to-day if the weather permit. Southwood was travelling agent of the Government Life Insurance. There is little hope of him being found alive.
