THE FEDERAL CONVENTION.
THE NEW ZEALAND DELEGATES. [BY TELEGRAPH.— OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Wednesday. I understand that the Government have written to Sir George Grey asking to be informed whether his health will allow him to attend the Federation Conference as one
of the delegates from New Zealand. No answer has yet been received. I believe a similar request has been made to Sir H. Atkinson. A Minister cannot be spared to attend the Conference. As "the time is drawing nigh, it is stated to be necessary to provide for the full representation of the colony according to the resolution passed in the last session of the last Parliament. Captain Russell will, of course, be one of the delegation, having been also nominated by the House. I think it is not unlikely that Sir Harry Atkinson will be able to attend. The doubtful case is that of Sir George Grey. If neither Sir George Grey nor Sir Harry Atkinson can go, some other representatives will have to be appointed, but a Minister will not be nominated.
