German beet sugar, 12s 9d ; Java, 15s 3d. No. 1 best Scotch pig iron, f.o.b. in Clyde, 47s 3d. Silver, 45 $d. The butter market is glutted. Prices have fallen 4s per cwt. Dairy made butter, ex s.s. Duke of Buckingham, is 100s per cwt; factory made, 112s to 114s. New Zealand cheese is 54s to 55s per cwt. THE FINANCIAL SITUATION. London, January 23. The attacks of the " bears" on certain financial houses which have branches in Australia, and on others connected with South American business, have failed. The tone of the money market is now distinctly better.
