Wellington, Friday. A meeting of persons interested in the formation of a New Zealand Yacht Racing Association was held this evening, there being a large attendance/including visiting yachtsmen and the commodore of the Lyttelton Yacht Club. A resolution was carried that an association consisting of all yacht clubs in the four principal ports of the colony be. formed, and a committee was appointed to carry out preliminaries and draw up a report to be submitted to the clubs interested.
A meeting of citizens to-night decided that a yacht race in honour of the Auckland yacht Maritana be sailed to-morrow afternoon over a 17 mile course, and that prizemoney be not less than £40.' It is expected that about a dozen yachts will compete. The visitors are to be entertained at supper tomorrow night, and a large picnic is being arranged. - ■'■; . It is understood that the Lyttelton yachts will start on their return journey on Monday, the owners stating that the prize offered in Auckland is not a sufficient inducement to go North. ,
