[FROM OCR OWN- CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Wednesday. .Mr. H. A. Gordon, Inspecting Engineer of tie Mines Department, arrived here this norning, on a tour of inspection of the various mines in the district. A special meet ing of the Thames Borough Council was held to-day, at which Messrs. Renshaw and Koefoed were appointed to represent the Council upon the liistrict Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards, and Messrs. Radford and Poets as Hospital trustees. The annual statutory meeting of the Thames County Council was held at noon to-day for the purpose of electing a chairman for the ensuing year and attending to other routine matters. All the councillors were present, and Mr. E. W. H.yllis, clerk to the Council, occupied the chair. Mr. Dunlopproposed,and Mr. Kilgourseconded, 'That -Mr. Coutts be re-elected as Chairnan of the Council." Mr. Deeble proposed, is an amendment, which was seconded by Hr. Manuell, " Thar, Air. Cooper be appointed," but upon a show .of hands being .akt-n Mr. Coatts was declared re-elected. Mr. Coutts then took the chair, and briefly ;hanked the Council for having again laced him in that position. Messrs. Kil,'our and Paltridge were then appointed to represent tho Council upon the Charitable Aid Board ; Messrs. Kilgour, Cooper, and I'altridge on the District Hospital Board, and Messrs. Durilop and Cooper were appointed Hospital trustees, after which the proceedings terminated. A deputation from the Thames County Council waited upon Mr. 11. A. Gordon, Inspecting Engineer of Mines Department, this evening, and asked for aid in clearing 'lie numerous slips upon the Tharnes-Tapu road, and also putting it in good repair. It w:is pointed out that owing to the unfavourable position of the Council's funds, the county could not avail themselves of the subsidies receivable from Government, unless a special grant was obtained for that purpose. Mr. Gordon replied that during I)is viiL he would inspect the road in question, and on his return to Wellington would represent the matter to the Minister of Mines, but ho did not think there was the slightest hope of the request being granted until the new Parliament; met.
