Tenders are in for the Hunterville Road (a section of thirteen miles). The work will be commenced as soon as the successful tenderer shall have notified to the Government his acceptance of the contract, arid the formal signing of the deed. This is really the through road to Auckland, although extending at present only to Hunter ville. The new contract will take it to Tokano. Already surveys are in progress for contributory roads from the East and West Coasts. This would make the road to the active volcano Ngauruhoe accessible, and enable tourists to continue their journey by coach to Lichfield. Roads are being laid off from (Jisborne to Opotiki, and from Napier to the Hunterville-Taupo Road, which will 'jpen a large area of un travel led country. Roads to correspond will be laid off from the western side of the island, connecting 'with the whole road series debouching upon the North Trunk Railway.
