Tuesday, October 14. [Before Captain Jackson, K.M.I Drunkenness.— J(Tames Barrett, charged With drunkenness, was fined 5a and 2s costs, or 24 hours' imprisonment with hard labour. Breach of the Education Act.Robert Tomlinson, charged under the Education Act with frilling to send his child (between the age of 7 and 13 years) to the I'apakura public school. The chairman of committee prosecuted. Mr. Tomlinson pleaded not "uiity, and stated that the child had been £ept at home for some time owing to his arm having been broken, and on his return to school he had been severely beaten on the broken limb, and since that time could not be persuaded to return to school. It appears that tljp boy had been taken to the chairman of committee on the day of the flogging, and the injured arm shown to him? The usual notice having been omitted, the case was dismissed. W. Asjidown v. Thornk.—To account tendered, £20 Bs. Settled. W. Ash down v. Vincb.—To account rendered, £1 Is !)d. Settled. • John Creighton v. W. Veitcii.—To damage done by fire : Claim, £50. The evidence was taken last Court day, and the Resident Magistrate viewed the scene of fire, and judgment was given for plaintiff, £18 6s 9d, costs £1 17s, solicitor's fee £1 Is ; the amount to be paid in instalments of £2 per month. J. Kelly v. K. Mills.— work and labour done, £1 ss. Judgment for amount of claim and costs. Dalbeth v. Farmer.To balance of account, £18 Bs. Nonsuited without costs. Wairoa Road Board v. J. A. Smith.— To rates due, £1 8s 9d. Settled out of Court. —[Own Correspondent.]
