COLE'S BUTTER CHURN. London, October 10. The butter churn exhibited by Mr. Walter Cole, of Wellington, at the Islington Dairy Show has been awarded the gold medal.

RELEASE OF STRIKE RIOTERS. Paris, October 11. President Carnot has sanctioned the release of a number of prisoners who were taken into custody during the strikes which occurred some months back. THE POTATO BLIGHT IN IRELAND. London, October 10. The Government has agreed to advance the Midland Great Western Railway Company the sum of £400,000 for the purpose of constructing railway lines into the district which are most affected by the petato blight. THE GERMAN LOAN. Berlin, October 10. The German loan of 235,000,000 marks has been subscribed twice over in Berlin. THE GRENADIER GUARDS. London, October 10.
