ELECTION NEWS.

[by tkleoiuph.— own lorrkspondent.] Wellington, Tuesday. Tuk Hon. Captain Russell goes to Hawko's Bay to-morrow on business connected with the coming election for that electorate. His re-election is considered hero to be quite certain. 1 made some enquiry this afternoon as to the probable date of the elections. I was informed that the date was not fixed, but that it would be somewhat later than expected. This dolay is owing, I believe, to the preparation of the rolls in some districts boing rather backward. Mr. Lundon, a local resident, is out against Dr. Newman for the Hutt. Mr. Izard has, I understand, retired from the contest in this electorate. 1 learn today, from a reliable source, that all the four railway employes dismissed by the Railway Commissioners are candidates for various constituencies. It is said that one will stand for Wellington, one for Lvttelton, one for Greyniouth, and ono for an Otago constituency. It is rumoured here that Mr. Grimmoml will oppose Mr. Seddon. All tho Wellington candidates are holding meetings this evening in different parts of the city. Chkistchukcu, Tuesday. Mr. J. D. Lance Announces himself for Ashley. Dunedin, Tuesday. The miners at Point have decided to bring out a candidate for Waitaki in opposition to Mr. John Melveu/.ie. THAMES. Fakroa, Tuesday. Mr. Vessey Stewart has started his electoral campaign. TE A ROM A. Te Aroha, Tuesday, An enthusiastic meeting of Mr. W S. Allen's committee was held here on Saturday evening to arrange for his candidature for the To Aroha electorate in tho coming general election. The work of canvassing out-districts will be rapidly proceeded with. There is some talk of asking Mr. Reader Wood to stand for Parnell.
