SUPREME COURT.-In Bankruptcy. < Monday. [Before His Honor Mr. Justice Conolly.J Close of Bankruptcy.—On the motion of Mr. Theo. Cooper, who appeared for the Official Assignee, the bankruptcies of Thomas Slater and Henry George Pa- ne were declared closed. Orders of Discharge.—Mr. O'Meagher applied that an order of discharge may be granted to Arthur Pobequin. The bankrupt, who was resident in Hokianga, was not present, but as there was no opposition the order was granted.—Mr. Purcnas applied for an order of discharge for John McDermott. This bankruptcy took place at the Thames, and the bankrupt did not appear, but there being no opposition the order was granted.—Mr. Purchas made a similar application for Charles Cameron Kidd, another Thames resident, and there being no opposition the order was made.
POLICE COURT.—Monday. [Before Messrs. W. Moody anil D. Robertson, J.P.'s.] Drunkenness—Two first offenders were each fined 5s and costs, or, in default, 24 hours' hard labour. Archibald Colquhoun was fined 10s and costs, or 48 hours' imprisonment. Larch.—Michael Ryan, on remand, was charged with having stolen various articles of clothing, to the value of £4 13s 4d, the p- jperty of R. W. Brown. On the application of Sergeant Gamble, the case was adjourned till to-day. [Before Messrs. C. C. McMillan and J. McLachlan, J.P.'s.] Probation Report.James Morgan, who had been remanded for sentence on Friday last in order that the Probation Officer's report might be received, on a charge of stealing a waterproof coat, valued at £2 15s, the property of William Mahoney, was brought up for sentence. The report was very unfavourable, showing the accused to be a bad character; and the Bench said that, under the circumstances, they did not feel disposed to allow him the benefit of the Probation Act, but would inflict a sentence of one month with hard labour.
