WRECK OF THE CUTTER LARK.

THE CAPTAIN DROWNED. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Tauranga, Wednesday. Mr. Lundon has received a wire from Matata to tho effect that the cutter Lark, which left here with a cargo of stores for that place, has been wrecked on tho beach, her topmast broken off, and the master, whose name was Peter Joins, was washed overboard and drowned. Tho police have proceeded to the scene of the wreck. [The Lark is a well known coastal trader of 15 tons, and is owned by the Auckland firm of Messrs. Henderson and Spraggon, by whom she was built here in 1884. " She left here a couple of weeks ago, and has been lying in Tauranga for some time, having left this week for Matata in the Bay of Plenty. Her master, Peter Jonas, who is drowned, was well-known in the coastal trade, and was a skilful mariner, having been sailing for many years. He was, however, unable to swim. Deceased was a middle-aged man and unmarried, his only relation being a brother now in Auckland.]
